Viral: Influencer warns of New York tourist trap charging $77 for in-room delivery, netizens react

Imagine going to New York, a place that is in almost every traveller's itinerary, staying at a hotel with a budget only to realise that you have been ripped off of your money through sneaky and expensive hidden charges that you were not even made aware of.

Such was the case with a content creator named Anushka Rathod, who recently took to Instagram to share her frustrating experience of staying at a 'tourist trap' New York hotel. Rathod shared her frustration, advising fellow travellers to be aware of such unexpected and surprising costs.She shared that the bill for her stay had two added costs of in-room dining which she had not asked for. After enquiring with the reception, it was revealed that the hotel charged her $26 for ordering cutlery which consisted of a plate, spoon and fork.

Secondly, she was charged $31 for asking for hot water since the room had no kettle in it. However, the influencer who has a following of 1.2M on the social media app, handled the charges smartly. She talked to the reception about not being pre-informed of such charges being applied by the hotel and asked them to reverse the charges. While the staff disagreed initially after being threatened by the influencer about a video exposing such tactics, they agreed to reverse the additional charges.

"So, remember, always check your bill carefully and don’t hesitate to question extra charges," she wrote in the caption of the post which has received more than 4K likes.
