Happy Halloween from the White House! US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump opened up the White House to children on Friday for the annual Halloween trick-or-treat event. Dressed up as pop culture icons and even the first couple, kids entered the South Lawn and collected candy from the President and his wife themselves.
A viral moment
The 79-year-old MAGA leader rocked a suit with his signature red-coloured 45-47 POTUS baseball cap while his 55-year-old wife donned a trench coat with neon orange lining, in the spirit of the festival. Holding out baskets of candies, Trump proved he is just as aware of viral memes as any other Gen Z netizen, as he recreated one of his most viral moments from the 2019 Halloween celebrations. Back at the time, the president earned a loud laugh online for placing a piece of candy on a child's head in a Minions costume.
Adding to the fun, Melania followed suit and did the same. Now, in 2025, the president created a 2.0 moment as he put a candy bar on the head of a kid dressed as DJ Marshmello. Instead of putting the candy in the bag, Trump placed it on the top of the masked helmet. While the child appeared confused at first, he lifted his head and understood the assignment, carefully walking away with the candy on his head. The first couple smiled as they watched the child walk away.
Netizens react to the meme
Conservative Commentator Berry Johnson shared the video on X (Formerly Twitter) writing, "PART TWO: President Trump just put a candy bar on a trick-or-treater's head AGAIN. He really did it again." People on the internet have been loving the president's humorous side during the annual festival, praising him for the same. "This is a strong granddad move. This and only putting a drop of soda in the grandkids' cup when they ask for refills," wrote one."Only Trump could turn handing out candy into prime-time entertainment. 🍬😂Love him or hate him — nobody does Halloween like 45 & Melania.🎃" added another.
Halloween at the White House
Halloween at the official residence of the president had various fun moments. One of the moms dressed her kids in a McDonald's "Order Here" costume cart rolling through the White House. The choice seemed to be a reference to the POTUS surprising customers as a supposed employee of the fast food chain during his 2024 presidential campaign.
“President Trump, former McDonald’s worker himself, greets new Drive-Thru employees at the White House,” the official White House Rapid Response account shared on X.
The pair also distributed candy to the trio dressed as them with an accompanying security, even posing for a snap with them and Trump high-fiving his cosplayer. Other notable moments included the President signing a golf ball and his TIME Magazine covers for kids, according to The Independent. As a queue of children awaited getting candies from the President and the First Lady, the Air Force Band soundtracked the event with tunes including instrumental renditions of "Thriller", "Ring of Fire" and "Radioactive", making it another Halloween to remember.
