Authorities at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, have temporarily withdrawn the ₹50 fee imposed on visitors.

The fee was enforced in the wake of a direction from the Department of Health and Family Welfare to restrict the number of visitors to the facility in view of a rise in COVID cases. This had led to protests by various organisations. The Democratic Youth Federation of India had warned of an agitation if the fee was not revoked. It is learnt that the hospital development society will meet on June 17 to take a final call on the issue. The department had earlier advised healthcare institutions to restrict the number of caregivers and visitors. Patients and caregivers need to wear face masks.
