Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy on Sunday (May 31, 2026) asked the officials concerned to take steps for the quick completion of the desilting of tanks, the improvement of water flow through feeder canals, the strengthening of bunds and other works under the Jaladhara Jalaharathi programme. The Collector, along with Joint Collector Sedhu Madhavan, is personally monitoring the works, which need to be completed before the Jaladhara scheme begins. As many as 5,000 such works have been taken up in the first phase of the programme.
A total of 12,305 works have been identified in the district and will be taken up in phases. The funds allocated under the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB GRAM G) will be used for the scheme. Desilting of tanks, improvement of water flow through feeder canals, strengthening of bunds and other works are being taken up.

The Collector said the scheme was already helping to rejuvenate several tanks, such as the Gaduvani Cheruvu of Modavalasa village in Denkada mandal. The tank had remained silted for many years. The rejuvenation works were recently taken up under the VB GRAM G programme. Because of the rainfall and improved groundwater levels, the tank is now receiving water and is expected to reach full storage in the rainy season. It is likely to benefit nearly 300 acres of land in Modavalasa village. As many as 5,000 tanks like the Gaduvani Cheruvu are likely to be rejuvenated in the next couple of months.
