Russian President Vladimir Putin heaped praise on US President Donald Trump, calling him a “very courageous person" who “survived two assassination attempts" and reaffirmed his belief that Donald Trump sincerely wants to bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

In a wide-ranging statement, Vladimir Putin said, “I deeply respect Donald Trump. He has travelled a very long and difficult path… He survived two assassination attempts. He is a very courageous person, that’s for sure."

He added, “As for what he is doing within the country, or when it comes to the Middle East or his efforts to achieve peace in the Ukraine crisis- we value that a lot."

Vladimir Putin acknowledged that Donald Trump had recently admitted the war in Ukraine was more difficult to resolve than initially expected. “It’s true and it’s expected. One thing is to look at something from the outside- it’s another to be involved," Vladimir Putin said, adding, “Real life is always difficult."

The Russian leader also said he remained open to a future meeting with Donald Trump, revealing that the American president had suggested the possibility on several occasions. “Thanks to Trump, US-Russia relations are moving forward," Vladimir Putin noted, suggesting that a potential meeting could lead to a “new level of partnership."

Trump Calls Vladimir Putin ‘Misguided’

Vladimir Putin’s remarks came after Donald Trump, speaking at the NATO summit in The Hague, described the Russian president as “misguided" and admitted that solving the Ukraine crisis has proven harder than he initially believed.

“I think it’s a great time to end it [the war]," Donald Trump said, adding, “I’m going to speak to Vladimir Putin, see if we can get it ended. I thought we would have had that settled easy."

When asked if Vladimir Putin had territorial ambitions beyond Ukraine, Donald Trump said, “It’s possible," reaffirming US concerns about Russia’s long-term threats to NATO.
