Iran has held the United States directly responsible for Israeli actions in Lebanon, warning that any escalation in the region would have consequences for Washington.
Overnight exchanges of fire between Iran and Israel, the first since a fragile ceasefire in April, have worsened already “chaotic" diplomacy, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said on Monday.
Baghaei added that Tehran is maintaining communications with Washington, but in an atmosphere of “extreme suspicion."

Baghaei accused Israel of carrying out attacks in Lebanon to undermine diplomatic efforts, whether or not these were coordinated with the United States.
“The United States bears direct responsibility for any action the Zionist regime (Israel) takes in relation to violating regional peace and security against Iran," he added.
