Anthony Edwards has become one of the NBA’s best young players over the past five years. He helped the Minnesota Timberwolves reach the Western Conference Finals two years in a row and is seen as someone who could be the new star of the league.
However, in the series against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony Edwards hasn’t played as well as expected. While NBA expert Kendrick Perkins believes Edwards isn’t ready to be the face of the league, but later changed his mind a bit.
Kendrik Perkins’ apology to Anthony Edwards
Anthony Edwards, who was the top pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, had his best season this year, scoring an average of 27.6 points per game. Still, in Game 4, he struggled, scoring only 16 points, with several mistakes.
Because of that game, some people are starting to question if he’s ready to be the NBA’s next big star. Even great players have bad games, and he still has time to improve.Kendrick Perkins recently apologized on ESPN’s First Take for his earlier comments about Anthony Edwards. He had said Edwards didn’t “check the boxes” to be considered the next face of the NBA. But after more thought—and likely seeing how young and talented Edwards is—Perkins took back his statement and admitted he may have spoken too soon.
On Wednesday, Perkins took to X, where he said:
“Anthony Edwards is one (of) my favorite players in the League, if not my favorite player. I apologized privately, so I’m apologizing publicly to the young (king), for my comments on First Take yesterday. My bad, young fella. I was not taking a personal shot at you, but I could see how it could have been taken that way.”
