The Krasheninnikov volcano in Kamchatka erupted overnight for the first time in 600 years, scientists and Russia's national news agency, RIA, announced on Sunday. An ash plume as high as 6,000 meters (3.7 miles) has been observed after the volcano erupted, according to the Kamchatka branch of Russia's emergency services ministry.
The actual height of the volcano is 1,856 meters. The massive earthquake that shook Russia's Far East last week, which sent tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile, may have been linked to both catastrophes. Klyuchevskoy, the Kamchatka Peninsula's most active volcano, then erupted.According to scientists, it might have something to do with last week's massive earthquake off the coast of Russia.According to Olga Girina, the leader of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team, "This is the first historically confirmed eruption of Krasheninnikov Volcano in 600 years," according to RIA.
She went on to say that the eruption might be related to the Wednesday earthquake that caused Klyuchevskoy, the Kamchatka Peninsula's most active volcano, to erupt after sending out tsunami warnings as far away as French Polynesia and Chile.
Girina stated on the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology's Telegram channel that Krasheninnikov has not experienced an eruption since 1463, or around 40 years ago, when the last lava effusion occurred. The ministry said on Telegram, "The ash cloud has drifted eastward, toward the Pacific Ocean. There are no populated areas along its path.”According to the ministry, “The eruption of the volcano has been assigned an orange aviation code, indicating a heightened risk to aircraft.
