Radha Yadav, arguably the best fielder in this current Indian set-up, pulled off a blinder in the last over of the fifth T20I between England and India.

One of the standout aspects of India’s 3-2 T20I series win against England was their much-improved fielding. On Saturday night in Birmingham, however, they were having a mixed outing. Ground fielding was alright, but a couple of chances were already put down, there were some lazy moments and what not. But not from Radha Yadav, who was once again electric on the field. And in the final over of a tense run-chase, she pulled off an absolute blinder in what would go down as one of the best catches by an Indian fielder this year.

On strike was Amy Jones, the wicketkeeper batter, with England needing 5 off 4 balls. Arundhati Reddy was the bowler. Jones moved across the stumps, anticipating a delivery outside off, and she went for a slog sweep. She didn’t get the timing right but it seemed the ball was going to fall in front of the fielder at deep midwicket. But that fielder was Radha, who sprinted in a few yards and put in a full-length dive to take a sensational catch. The third umpire needed a few replays to check if she grounded the ball while completing the dive but it was clear she had held on to it cleanly. It put England under pressure but India couldn’t force a tie in the end as the hosts clinched a last-ball thriller. India rode on Shafali Verma’s quick-fire 75 to score 167 for 7, a target which England chased down with five wickets to spare eventually, as the visitors missed a golden chance to force a Super Over.

A fantastic piece of fielding 👏

We finish our innings on 177/7

“Wow, Radha Yadav I think that is. She has been the best on show for India throughout this series. What a time to pull off a special catch that is,” former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull said on air. Next to him was England pacer Kate Cross on commentary duties, and she remembered Harleen Deol’s stunner that went viral around the world in July 2021. Incidentally, the batter was once again Amy Jones that day, when Harleen pulled off a special effort at long off, parrying the ball over, then diving back into the playing field from beyond the boundary line.
