Australian influencer exposes China’s ‘fat prisons’ and their brutal regime

The country has received immense criticism for its 'fat prisons'

From politics to public life, China has been making numerous headlines recently. Recently, the country has received immense criticism for its 'fat prisons', camps where plus-sized people spend a month exercising and following a strict diet to be able to lose weight rapidly.

The camps have invited public scrutiny for promoting potentially dangerous methods of weight loss. Despite the downsides associated with sudden and unsustainable weight loss, these camps continue to attract hundreds of hopeful participants.

Dark reality of fat prisons

In a video going viral on the internet, an Australian influencer who goes by 'eggeats' took to Instagram to share her experience of attending the fat prison. She has been providing an online insight into the punishing schedules and diet the inmates are bound to follow.

The woman explained that their day begins at 7:30 am when the alarms go off. At 8, all the inmates are weighed. From 9:20 to 10:30 am, they attend a rigorous aerobics class. Their first meal of the day is at 11:15 am which consists of four eggs, half a tomato, a slice of bread and some cucumber. Then, they head to cardio and weight-lifting classes which end by 4 pm. This is followed by lunch. Then come two hours of high-intensity training and spin classes.

At the end of the day, all the inmates have dinner and are weighed again before they head off to bed.

The hefty price of weight loss

The 28-year-old influencer shared that she left her 'high-paying' job in Australia and moved to China because she felt stagnant and stuck in a loop. Over the course of two weeks at the camp, she lost 4kgs.Participants who enrol on the prisons have to pay around $1000. The fee includes their classes, meals and accommodation, which is one bed in a five-bed dormitory.

However, they are not allowed to leave mid-way without a "valid" reason. The influencer explained that the camp is surrounded by high perimeter fences and the gates are locked to prevent people from escaping. Additionally, the camp officials check luggage to ensure that inmates are not sneaking in high-calorie snacks. While these fat prisons might be extremely popular in the country, they include rigorous classes and minimal meals with no other healthy activities or enjoyable times. Their main aim is weight loss and such targeted practices are not completely healthy for the human mind and body.
