Water adventure activities at Varuna Lake near Mysuru have been temporarily suspended from Thursday in view of development and beautification works being undertaken at the lake.
The project is being implemented by the Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Limited (CNNL) as part of efforts to improve the lake’s infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
The development plan includes desilting of the lake, construction of fencing, development of a parking area, and installation of a Natural Biological System (NBS) to scientifically treat polluted water entering the lake. To facilitate these technical works, the lake will have to be completely drained.
In this regard, all water adventure activities conducted by Outback Adventures at Varuna Lake have been temporarily halted since March 5. “The activities will resume once the civil works are completed,” a press release said.
The initiative aims to transform Varuna Lake into a more attractive and eco-friendly destination for tourists in the coming days, the release added.
The Deputy Commissioner, who is also the Chairman of the District Tourism Development Committee, has appealed to the public and tourists to cooperate with the district administration during the ongoing development works.
