The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board has decided to double the number of samples for testing every day during the monsoon to check water contamination and related disease spread.
The focus will be on delivering quality drinking water, as there is a possibility of increased turbidity in the water due to the rains.
Water Board Managing Director K. Ashok Reddy met senior officials from the quality control and transmission departments to review the situation on Monday and gave specific instructions. Besides transmission and quality control on drinking water projects of Krishna, Godavari and Manjeera, the meeting discussed precautionary measures to prevent contaminated water from entering slum colonies. The Board will distribute chlorine tablets and bleaching powder in low-lying areas and those prone to contamination.
Mr. Reddy also cautioned for upkeep of logbooks on quantities of water pumped by motors at pump houses, related repairs for the pumps, and a complete record of all maintenance. Additionally, he ordered proposals to set up standby motors in each pump house.
