Veteran offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer retired just a few months after signing with the New England Patriots, closing the book on an eight-year NFL career in surprising fashion.
The 31-year-old Wes Schweitzer was officially added to the Patriots' reserve/retired list on Tuesday, bringing an end to what was to be a new beginning with his fourth NFL franchise. A player widely considered to be versatile across the offensive line, Wes Schweitzer's untimely departure follows years of constant injury issues and limited playing time.

The New England Patriots had signed Wes Schweitzer in March 2025 to strengthen their offensive line with a veteran with a track record.
But only three months later, the erstwhile sixth-round choice opted out of the game. He remained with the Falcons for four years before playing for the Washington Commanders and later joining the New York Jets, where he spent two injury-plagued years. During the last three seasons, he played a total of only 17 games, just four of which were in 2024 with the Jets.

Although Wes Schweitzer never caught on as a household name, his versatility to play across several offensive line positions and contribute made him respected within league circles.
