West Bengal BJP leader Dilip Ghosh visits CPI(M) leader Anil Das who was ‘assaulted’ by TMC woman

Former West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and senior party leader Dilip Ghosh met senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader from Kharagpur, Anil Das, at his home and offered his support. Mr. Das was reportedly assaulted by Trinamool Congress leader Baby Kole. 

“TMC has only won the Kharagpur Municipality elections, with that they exert so much control and abuse in Kharagpur, imagine if they win Lok Sabha and Bidhan Sabha seats here?” Mr .Ghosh said after meeting with Mr. Kole in his house. A former MLA from Kharagpur and a local from the area, Mr. Ghosh accused the TMC leadership of nurturing abusive culture in the State. 

A police complaint has been filed against Ms. Kole for physically assaulting Mr. Das An FIR has been filed against Ms. Kole against the assault, but she has not been arrested yet drawing backlash from the BJP leadership. 

“Who will arrest her? TMC leaders have already reached the police station; they dictate what the FIR should be. They take over 4 days to write a simple complaint,” Mr. Ghosh accused. 

Viral video

The video of the assault went viral on social media sites and many women along with Ms. Kole was seen hitting the senior man. 

The assault allegedly started over a land encroachment dispute between a Ms. Kole, her associates and an elderly lady. Mr. Das tried to intervene and tried which led to the scuffle. 

Mr. Das said, “I ran away. But I was chased and assaulted on the street.” He asked for the immediate arrest of Ms. Kole and her associates. 

“We strongly protest the way Anil Das was brutally beaten on the street. I demand exemplary punishment for those who are involved in the incident,” TMC district president Sujoy Hazra said.
