West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has composed the lyrics of the theme song of a Durga Puja committee in Kolkata.

The theme song for Tala Prattoy Durga Puja, which is celebrating its centenary year and which is composed by Ms. Banerjee, has been sung by State Minister of State for Tourism and Information and Cultural Affairs Indranil Sen.

The song ‘Bij Angan’ (seeds in the courtyard) was inaugurated by organisers on Thursday (September 18, 2025). “As we celebrate a century of Tala Prattoy, ‘Bij Angan’ is a tribute to the enduring spirit of Durga Puja, Bengal’s heritage. We were honoured that the honourable Chief Minister wrote this special song for our centenary year, beautifully rendered by Indranil Sen,” said Dhrubajyoti Bose Suvo, one of the organisers of the event.

Over the past few years, the West Bengal Chief Minister has been composing songs for the festive season.

During a meeting at the State Cabinet on Thursday (September 18, 2025), the Chief Minister directed Ministers to keep a watch on their constituencies during the Durga Puja festival. Ms. Banerjee also directed them to keep an eye on the law and order and negate any form of attempts to disrupt peace here during the period.

The Trinamool Congress chairperson will soon start inaugurating big-ticket Durga Pujas in the State. Not only is the Durga Puja the biggest festival in West Bengal, but it is also an opportunity for public outreach for political parties in the State.

The Chief Minister has announced ₹1.10 lakh for about 43,000 community pujas in the State, which is likely to cost ₹500 crore to the state exchequer.

The West Bengal government claims that the Durga Puja festival boosts the economy of the State. A 2021 report by the British Council found this creative economy of Durga Puja was worth over ₹32,377 crore and contributed 2.58% to the state’s GDP.

In the report, the economy of the festival in 2019 was estimated. UNESCO in December 2021 added Durga Puja in Kolkata to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
