Martina Navratilova slammed a headline after Zohran Mamdani won the New York City mayoral race. The tennis legend called the headline “idiotic” and also agreed that it’s time to end Andrew Cuomo’s political career.The 2025 New York City mayoral election ended on November 4, 2025. Zohran Mamdani, a Democrat, won with just over 50 percent of the vote. He defeated former governor Andrew Cuomo, who ran as an independent and got around 41 percent, and Curtis Sliwa, the Republican, who received nearly 7 percent.The New York Post mocked Zohran Mamdani’s socialist image with a front page that said, “The Red Apple, On your Marx, get set, Zo!” The headline was seen as making fun of Mamdani’s background and his political beliefs.
Martina Navratilova reacted to it on X, writing, “What an idiotic headline.”Another post on X said it would be a “fitting end” to Cuomo’s career after losing the race with support from Donald Trump. The user added that Cuomo and his brother should “move to a desert island.” Navratilova replied, “Amen.”

After Zohran Mamdani’s big win, Kayleigh McEnany, a Fox News host and former White House Press Secretary under Donald Trump, posted her reaction on X.
She wrote, “A Socialist has officially taken over New York City. What a day in America. You own this, Democrats.”Martina Navratilova quickly replied:“lol. Pretty sure you have no clue what that means. Socialism is when the government controls everything and takes the money from companies, among other things. That’s what your guy is doing. His win made history, he is the first Muslim and first South Asian mayor of New York City, and one of the youngest ever. He will be sworn in on January 1, 2026.
