Smart fence systems, robotic mules, quadcopters, advanced surveillance tools, night vision sights and all-terrain vehicles – these are part of the three-layered security system that the Indian Army has planned along the Line of Control to prevent any disruption to Independence Day celebrations on August 15.
This August 15 is the first Independence Day after Operation-Sindoor, and the Army is fortifying security with a number of measures — including deploying drones, dog squads and detectors along the LoC.
Equipped with advanced sensors, the robotic mules – multi-legged robots designed by AeroArc under the Make in India initiative and capable of navigating different terrains — can be used to transport supplies, detect explosives and carry out reconnaissance, an army officer said, adding that their modular design also allows for customisation across various battlefield roles.

“These can even operate in swarms, creating a ‘mini robot army’ that enhances operational efficiency while reducing risks to soldiers,” he said.
The induction of advanced military vehicles such as the Armado and all-terrain vehicles have given the Army’s quick-reaction teams an advantage to act swiftly to “neutralise” threats — especially from infiltrating militants. Meanwhile, its advanced surveillance drones with precision dropping mechanism are capable of not just monitoring, but also hitting the enemy targets by dropping grenades and IEDs without exposing the soldiers, the army officer added.
All these technological advancements, including the Smart Fence System which enhances border security and surveillance, were on display to media persons in Sunderbani sector of border Rajouri district, said Defence PRO Lt Colonel Suneel Bartwal.

“Despite extreme weather conditions, isolation and the constant demand for vigilance, these soldiers embody remarkable resilience. In addition to their duties, the soldiers maintain rigorous training standards, underscoring the necessity of being prepared for any challenge,” he said.
