India all-rounder Washington Sundar revealed the secret sauce behind Shubman Gill's captaincy during the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.Gill, who was captaining India for the first time, was instrumental both with the bat and his leadership as India notched up a 2-2 draw.

"I mean, you could imagine how much it would mean to him as well, leading for the first time and that too coming to a place like England," Washington Sundar told Wisden."He has had a fantastic series, both as a batsman and a leader. And as a leader, he was amazing."He was very clear about what he needed from different individuals, and he communicated all the plans and all the thoughts that he had in his mind to all of us, and things were very clear in our heads.

"I think all of us were extremely happy for him, honestly."Sundar, who played four Tests in the series, scored 284 runs with the bat, including a match-winning century at Old Trafford. He also picked up seven wickets with the ball.He highlighted the strong bond and camaraderie in the group during the fascinating Test series."Truly, just the way the whole dressing room and the atmosphere were created, it was fabulous," he said.
"It's an amazing atmosphere and a space to be a part of because we're all quite young, and that's extremely exciting. Coming into the series, we knew for a fact that all of us would have to put our hands up and step up in different situations."I think in this series, when we look back, that's exactly what we've done."There were so many individuals throughout the series who stepped up, won the situations, and eventually won games for the team."And this is exactly the kind of team that we've always wanted to be — and we were in the series. Yes, it created some amazing bonds on and off the field."
