According to a recently answered
Parliament question
, over 13 crore of the 56 crore Jan Dhan accounts – an initiative primarily meant for the
financial inclusion
of the poor and to ensure access to various government schemes – are inoperative.
Although around a fourth of these accounts are inactive, here is why the scheme has achieved its purpose.
