o you're headed on a flight and wondering what to wear—comfy hoodie? Cute romper? Flip-flops? According to one flight attendant who’s spent six years in the skies, please don’t.
Cher (@cherdallas on TikTok) recently went viral for spilling tea on five things you should never wear on a plane unless you’re trying to be uncomfortable, unhygienic, or freezing mid-air.Let’s break it down.
Rompers & jumpsuits are bathroom nightmares
Sounds cute, right? Not when you realize you’ll be basically undressing completely every time you need to pee. Cher calls them a “double no-no.” She told the Mirror UK: "I would never wear a romper. If you're going to the bathroom, that thing is going to end up on the floor, which is soaked with pee and doesn't get mopped often."
(She’s not exaggerating. The floors don’t get mopped often, and the number of people using them? Yikes.
)
Shorts? Hard pass
We get it—it’s hot outside. But inside the plane? A whole different story. Cher says she never wears shorts, and here’s why: "The amount of times that dirty diapers get changed on the seats is astonishing. Not to mention people vomit. People are dirty themselves and are sitting in the seats. You're asking for a ringworm or an infection by wearing shorts."
Not the inflight souvenir you had in mind.
Flip-flops or sandals will make you regret
Yeah, your feet want to breathe—but the airplane carpet is not where you want them doing it. From spilled drinks to who-knows-what bacteria, that floor is a minefield. Cher suggests something closed-toe and comfy. Basically, if you wouldn’t walk barefoot in a gas station bathroom, don’t wear open shoes on a flight.
Tube tops or tank tops alone
Wanna freeze mid-air? Great, wear a tank with no backup. Cher says you’re almost guaranteed to shiver the entire time.
Layers are your friend. The cabin temperature can change quickly, and you don’t want to feel stuck. "I would never wear a tank top or tube top by itself. Not only are you going to freeze to death but I feel like decorum wise, it's always better to air on the side of modesty when it comes to travelling,” she says in her video.
Just a jumper, no layers underneath
It may seem cozy, but if you get warm mid-flight, you’ll wish you had a t-shirt underneath to strip down to. Cher recalls a woman who overheated and had to sit in her bra for the rest of the flight. Don’t be that person. Always layer—it gives you options.So next time you’re packing your airport fit, think beyond style and consider: “Will this make me feel gross, cold, or regret my life choices halfway through the flight?”
