When headlines said, ‘Shilpa Shirodkar shot dead’, the actress reflects upon rumours of her death: ‘There were 20-25 missed calls’

Shilpa Shirodkar, best known for movies like ‘Gopi Kishan’, ‘Aankhen’ and more and who was last seen in ‘Bigg Boss’ had once found herself amidst rumours of her death. A newspaper headline read that Shilpa was shot dead and that created a huge stir.

In a recent interview, she had recalled an incident and how she was flooded with panic calls from her loved ones during that time.

The rumour said that the actress was shot dead while shooting for her 1995 film ‘Raghuveer’, an action drama headlined by Suniel Shetty. The film, which also starred Suresh Oberoi, Sudha Chandran, Mohnish Bahl, Aruna Irani, Gulshan Grover, and Prem Chopra, became the centre of controversy when whispers of Shilpa's supposed on-set death began circulating during its shoot. Reflecting on the incident in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shilpa recounted the moment panic unfolded back home. “I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel because we didn’t have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. Everyone who was watching the shoot there kept thinking if this is Shilpa or someone else because they knew the news," she recalled. The chaos didn’t end there.

Upon returning to her room after the day’s shoot, she was greeted by a flurry of unanswered calls. “When I came back to the room, there were around 20-25 missed calls. My parents were worried, there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead," she shared. Only later did she find out that the entire episode was a stunt — a shockingly extreme publicity gimmick orchestrated by the film’s producer. “When he told me, I was like ‘Okay’. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this was going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time. The film worked well, so I wasn’t really angry,” she said with a shrug of acceptance. Now, years later, Shilpa Shirodkar is poised to make her comeback in Jatadhara which also stars Sonakshi Sinha.
