When Vijay Deverakonda spoke on 'Liger' failure, said, "I deserve the brickbats"

Tollywood's Vijay Deverkonda made his Bollywood debut with 'Liger' alongside Ananya Pandey in 2022, with the film being promoted extensively across India. However, the Puri Jagannadh directorial ended up disappointing audiences, and the film was a flop at the box office. In a throwback interview reported by The News Minute, Vijay shared his thoughts on Liger's failure and how he chose to deal with it. Despite entering the project with high hopes and confidence, the actor admitted that the final result left him embarrassed. His quote reads, "I have decided that for the next three films, I am going to shut my mouth and let my work speak for itself. It is a self-inflicted punishment because I embarrassed myself."Before the film's release the 'Geetha Govindam' actor had stated that his film would collect Rs 200 crore, but the film failed to mint good numbers. During the pre-release event of his film, 'Family Star', he spoke about how he made a statement that his film 'Liger' would make Rs 200 crore and he was advised not to make such claims which makes him look arrogant. However, he mentioned that making such claims is not wrong. He said, "What's wrong is me claiming that my film will make Rs 200 crore, but failing to do so.

I got a lot of brickbats for it. I deserve it. I will make Rs 200 crore some day.

" After 'Liger' he starred in the family romance drama film, 'Family Star' starring Mrunal Thakur, the movie received mixed reviews and had a poor performance. He then made a brief appearance in the 'Kalki 2898 AD' featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan. He will be next seen in the spy action thriller 'Kingdom' which is announced to be released on 4 July, however, there is buzz that the film will be delayed as no promotional content has been shared by the makers as the release date closes in.
