Alcaraz advanced to the final on Friday with a dominant straight-sets win over Novak Djokovic. This sets up an exciting title clash against world number one and defending champion Sinner. The Spanish second seed thwarted Djokovic’s attempt for a 25th Grand Slam crown with a 6-4, 7-6 (7/4), 6-2 victory in just over two hours, displaying a blend of power, precision, and relentless energy that the 38-year-old Serbian could not match.

Later on Arthur Ashe Stadium, Sinner overcame the Canadian 25th seed Felix Auger-Aliassime, winning 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Although the scoreline appeared comfortable, the Italian had to work hard, highlighting the resilience that has characterised his exceptional 2024 season.

Their head-to-head in 2024 has already delivered thrilling matches: Alcaraz narrowly defeated Sinner in a marathon at the French Open, while Sinner gained revenge at Wimbledon. This US Open final holds even higher stakes, with not only the trophy but also the world number one ranking at stake come Monday.

For Alcaraz, a five-time Grand Slam champion at just 22, the win over Djokovic was significant but not the end goal. For Sinner, the occasion bears even more historical significance. Having already won the Australian Open title, he becomes only the fourth man to reach all four Slam finals in a single year, joining legends Rod Laver, Roger Federer, and Djokovic.
