He was heavily influenced by his family throughout his early years, especially his grandmother, who played with him at her home, and his father, who gave him the nickname "Ant-Man" when he was three years old.In a November 2020 ESPN profile, Anthony said that trust was hard for him following the deaths of his mother and grandmother. He further said: "There are only two people who are going to get my all, but that's over with," he said.

"Nobody's going to get it."Anthony's brother then told ESPN that he promised to make the two proud when they passed away. Anthony is now the 2023–24 NBA season's breakout star, helping his club win multiple postseason games.At one point in his childhood, Anthony chose to use a black Sharpie to write his aspirations on the wall of his grandmother's house. He wrote, "Future McDonald's All-American" and "Future NBA player" in his shared bedroom.
