Coimbatore: A town panchayat president in Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur was arrested this week for allegedly running over a whistleblower who purportedly pre-empted his plan to build a private tarred road with public money, reports Tysion B.The deceased, 57-year-old K Palanisamy, was riding a scooter home on Wednesday when an SUV hit him from behind on Samalapuram-Karanampettai Road and sped away. He was declared dead on arrival at a hospital. What was initially suspected to be a case of rash driving turned into a criminal investigation when police traced the car to the home of S Vinayaga Palanisamy, who heads Samalapuram town panchayat.
