Adam Walton stuns Daniil Medvedev in five sets at Roland Garros, earns first Top 10 victory and sets up second round clash with Zachary Svajda.

Australian tennis star Adam Walton pulled off a massive upset on Monday at the French Open, beating sixth-seed Daniil Medvedev in five sets to move into the second round at the Roland Garros and set up a clash against US youngster Zachary Svajda.

World No. 97 Walton battled to a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win against Medvedev after recovering from 2-4 down in the deciding set to claim his maiden victory over a Top-10 opponent.

The 27-year-old Aussie, who had also stunned then-World No. 15 Medvedev at last year’s Cincinnati Open, saved 16 of the 21 break points he faced in a thrilling rollercoaster clash on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

Who Is Adam Walton?

Walton was born and raised in Home Hill in North Queensland. He started playing tennis at the age of five before moving to Brisbane at 14 after earning a tennis scholarship to attend Anglican Church Grammar School for the final three years of his education.

The move also permitted Walton to begin training at the National Academy based at the Queensland Tennis Centre.

Walton played college tennis at the University of Tennessee, where he captured the 2021 NCAA doubles title alongside Pat Harper.

Walton claimed his maiden ATP Challenger doubles title at the San Luis Open Challenger alongside Colin Sinclair. He later bagged his first Challenger singles title in August 2023 at the Atlantic Tire Championships in Cary, North Carolina.

For his Grand Slam main-draw debut, Walton received a wildcard entry into the 2024 Australian Open, where he was defeated by Matteo Arnaldi in the opening round.

Walton received a wildcard entry into the 2024 French Open, where he lost to Arthur Rinderknech in the opening round. He later bagged his maiden ATP main-draw victory at the Mallorca Championships by beating Yannick Hanfmann before bowing out to Paul Jubb in the second round.

One of Walton’s biggest wins to date was his victory over 22nd seed Ugo Humbert in the opening round of last year’s US Open.
