Boris Cherny is the lead engineer at AI giant Anthropic, best known as the creator of Claude Code, a tool made to help developers write and debug software. Cherny is based in the United States and has a background un computer science from the University of California, San Diego and is also the author of Programming TypeScript, published by O’Reilly.
Cherny has also has a reputation of both as a hands-on engineer and a thought leader in the AI space, with over 21,000 followers on LinkedIn.
Boris Cherny’s career
Cherny joined Anthropic in 2024 as the head of Claude Code and member of technical staff. Before joining Anthropic he worked with Meta as a principate software engineer. He worked at Meta for 6 years and was responsible of managing server architecture and develop infrastructure for Instagram.
As per his LinkedIn profile, Cherny is skilled in web development, JavaScript, software development and software engineering.
Boris Cherny’s Doomsday prediction
Recently, Cherny issued a stark warning about the future of internet-based work. According to a report by Benzinga, speaking on Lenny’s Podcast, Cherny predicted that advanced AI agents will soon expand into nearly every type of computer-based job, from software engineering to product management and design.
“It’s going to expand to pretty much any kind of work that you can do on a computer,” he said, cautioning that the transition will be disruptive and painful for many workers.Boris Cherny has also asked the workers to adapt rather than resist the technology. “Don’t be scared of them,” he advised, emphasising the importance of learning how AI tools function and integrating them into workflows. He also feels that agentic AI is only beginning to show its potential, with many professionals experiencing its capabilities for the first time.
