Russian Col Damir Davydov, head of artillery and missile ammunition supply, was killed in a car bombing near Moscow, Russia opened a criminal case, no claim of responsibility yet.

A senior Russian military official has been killed in a car bombing near Moscow, officials said.

An explosive device planted underneath a BMW detonated at about 5.30am on Tuesday as Col Damir Davydov was driving near his home in the city of Balashikha, The Guardian quoted an independent outlet Astra.

The 57-year-old official chaired the Russian military’s artillery and missile ammunition supply directorate, responsible for overseeing the distribution of weapons to the armed forces.

According to Reuters, there were two car bombs on Tuesday in Moscow – one which detonated in the morning in eastern Moscow and one which was identified ​by security services in southwestern Moscow.

Russia’s state Investigative Committee said a criminal case has been initiated into the matter.

However, the Ukrainian security services have not yet claimed responsibility.

Who is Damir Davydov?

According to The Independent, Davydov is believed to be responsible for supplying missiles and artillery ammunition to the front line for the Russian ministry of defence.

He has held the rank of colonel since the beginning of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. He was reportedly involved in planning and organising the Russian military invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Ukraine’s Book of Executioners stated.

The Independent stated that the Russian official was reportedly from the closed city of Zarechny, whose main employer is Rosatom, a state atomic energy corporation manufacturing nuclear weapon components.

Previously, Davydov reportedly was incharge of Central Testing Technical Bureau (military unit 63341) at the 51st Arsenal in 2009 before being appointed as head of the Missile and Ammunition Supply Directorate of the Main Artillery Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Defence in 2017.
