A woman IPS officer triggered a row after she got involved in a heated argument with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar over her action against illegal soil excavation in a village. DSP Anjali Krishna allegedly refused to recognise Ajit Pawar’s voice over a phone call.

The incident took place when Krishna had gone to investigate illegal murum (red soil) excavation linked to a road construction project in Solapur’s Karmala village. NCP leader Baba Jagtap called Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and handed over the phone to officer Krishna, after which a heated argument ensued.

Who Is DPS Anjali Krishna?

Anjali Krishna hails from Kerala and is an officer of the 2022-23 UPSC Civil Services batch and is currently posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Karmala, Solapur, according to reports. Krishna’s father runs a business in Thiruvananthapuram, while her mother works as a typist in a local court.

Krishna completed her schooling at St. Mary’s Central School, Poojappura, and graduated in Mathematics from HHMSPB NSS College for Women, Neeramankara. She secured an All India Rank of 355 in the UPSC Civil Services Examinations and earned recognition for her honesty, dedication and sharp administrative skills.

What Happened?

When the officer arrived to investigate the illegal extraction of “murrum" following a clash between miners and villagers, NCP’s Jagtap asked the DSP to stop the police action and called Ajit Pawar directly to speak to her

Suno, mai deputy chief minister bol raha hu aur aapko aadesh deta hu ki vo rokwao (Listen, I am the deputy chief minister and giving you the order to stop it)," Pawar was heard saying. However, Krishna could not hear him directly and sought clarification.

After this, Pawar reportedly switched to a video call to confront the officer directly. Krishna clarified that she could not recognise his voice. The video sparked an uproar among political circles, with opposition parties accusing Pawar of misusing his position. an FIR was filed at Kurduwadi police station against 10-15 NCP workers, including Baba Jagtap, for obstructing a government servant.

Ajit Pawar Issues Clarification

Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar said his intention was only to ensure the situation on the ground remained calm and did not escalate further. “Let me state clearly that my intention was not to interfere with law enforcement but to ensure that the situation on the ground remained calm and did not escalate further," he said on X.

“I remain firmly committed to transparent governance and to ensuring that every illegal activity, including sand mining, is dealt with strictly as per the law," he added.

Meanwhile, reacting the whole incident, NCP state president Sunil Tatkare said the video has been deliberately leaked. “Ajit Dada may have chided the IPS officer to placate party workers. He didn’t mean to stop the action completely," Tatkare said.
