Chennai-based billiards player L Shruthi shared her victory at the 2025 English Open Challenge Cup with internet users, who congratulated her wholeheartedly.

The internet applauded Chennai-based billiards player, L Shruthi, as she announced becoming the “youngest billiards champion" in the world at the age of 18. Taking to Reddit, Shruthi grabbed eyeballs after she declared her triumph at the 2025 English Open Challenge Cup held at the Landywood Snooker Club, Walsall.

“I had posted here a month back, stating that I’ll be participating in the World Women’s Billiards Championship again. I’m happy to share I’ve won the world women’s billiards championship again and have retained my title," Shruthi wrote in her post, also confirming her consecutive victory at the World Women’s Billiards Championship.

“I had participated in the men’s English open and world men’s championship as well. I am the first female in the tournament history to win the plate tournament in the former and to get selected to the main draw in the latter."

Meet The Youngest Billiards Champion

Born in 2007 in Chennai, L. Shruthi raised the Indian flag high in Walsall and bolstered her list of achievements on the billiards table. At the tender age of 17, Shruthi had pulled off a landmark victory at the World Women’s Billiards Championship in 2024. She has now retained her title at the marquee event, beating Australia’s Anna Lynch with a scoreline of 347-222.

Shruthi has added the English Open Challenge Cup to her rich trophy cabinet, overcoming England’s Adam Clarke 179-178 in the summit clash on Sunday, October 12. By winning the title, she also qualified for the World Billiards Championship Knockout stage.

Previously, the young sensation won special national honours at the Sub-Junior Billiards Championship twice in 2022 and 2024 and the Junior Billiards Championship in 2023.

The billiards sensation’s eye-catching victories left the internet users highly impressed as they applauded her and backed her to continue scaling great heights in her career.

“I can’t find the words to describe how proud I feel for you," said a user to L Shruthi’s Reddit post.

“Wow. Super duper. How’s the feeling to be a world champion?" asked another individual, to which Shruthi replied: “I feel satisfied. I set out to achieve certain goals and I ended up doing most and more."

“We are so proud of you," appreciated another person.

In her post, Shruthi expressed gratitude towards her followers for continuously supporting her and sending their good wishes. She said it motivates her to practice harder and win more laurels for the country on the world stage.
