Rudy Giuliani was injured in a Manchester car crash caused by Lauren Kemp, 19.

A 19-year-old driver was identified as the individual responsible for a car crash on August 31 that injured former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and two other people, Newsweek reported.

Giuliani, who previously served as US President Donald Trump’s attorney, was taken to a nearby trauma centre for treatment following the collision in New Hampshire.

Giuliani was a passenger in a Ford Bronco when it was struck from behind in the city of Manchester on Saturday evening, according to local police.

“He was diagnosed with a fractured thoracic vertebrae, multiple lacerations and contusions, as well as injuries to his left arm and lower leg," a statement from his security guard, Michael Ragusa, said.

In a statement on Sunday, New Hampshire State Police said that the 19-year-old boy, identified as Lauren Kemp of Concord, was behind the wheel in the Honda HR-V that crashed into the rear of Giuliani’s Ford Bronco.

According to The Independent, the vehicle carrying the former New York City mayor was being driven by his spokesperson, Ted Goodman.

The incident took place soon after Giuliani had helped an alleged victim of domestic violence who had flagged him down on a road, Ragusa said.

He further said that Giuliani sustained injuries but is in good spirits and recovering well. He emphasised that the crash was not a targeted attack.

No charges have been filed so far, but “all aspects of the crash" are under investigation.

Giuliani, 81, became known as “America’s Mayor" after leading New York through 9/11.

In 2008, he made an unsuccessful run for the presidency, and later became one of Trump’s advisers during the latter’s 2016 campaign. He joined Trump’s personal legal team in 2018 and remained a part of it through to the 2020 election.

Later, the two parted ways.
