NEW DELHI: Delhi Police on Thursday arrested businessman Samir Modi in connection with a sexual assault case. Samir, the brother of former IPL chairman and fugitive Lalit Modi, was taken into custody at Delhi airport around 10 am after returning to India, following an alert from immigration officials.Who is Samir Modi?

Samir Modi, the youngest son of industrialists KK Modi and Bina Modi, was born on 15 December 1969. He is a prominent Indian businessman and entrepreneur, serving as the Managing Director of Modi Enterprises and the founder of Modicare Foundation, Colorbar Cosmetics Pvt Ltd, and 24 Seven.Samir has been in the public eye not only for his business ventures but also for a long-running inheritance and family dispute with his mother, Bina Modi, regarding the execution of the late KK Modi’s trust deed, which governs the distribution of family assets. He has accused his mother of blocking his participation in company decisions and has pursued legal action over the matter.Apart from business and family disputes, Samir Modi was in the news last year after seeking police protection, claiming threats from his mother amid the ongoing feud. Samir has also been involved in defamation proceedings filed by independent directors of his company, Godfrey Phillips, which produces cigarette brands like Four Square and Red & White.

After being arrested at Delhi airport on Thursday (18th September), Samir has been sent to police custody for a day while investigators conduct further inquiries, including visiting the alleged locations of the incidents and recovering his mobile phone.The FIR, filed last month at New Friends Colony, alleges repeated instances of sexual assault on the pretext of “false promises” of promotion and better employment opportunities. The complainant has claimed that the incidents occurred at Samir Modi’s home, office, and hotels.
