NEW DELHI: Industrialist Sunjay Kapur, the former husband of film actress Karisma Kapoor, passed away after suffering a heart attack during a game of polo in England Thursday. Socialite Suhel Seth announced Kapur’s death on X, saying, “Deeply saddened at the passing of Sunjay Kapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues.
” A few hours earlier, Kapur's last post on social media had expressed grief over the Ahmedabad air crash. "Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour. #planecrash," Sunjay's last post on X read.Who was Sunjay Kapur?Sunjay Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, a global auto components company based in Gurugram.He also served as the President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA).Sunjay co-chaired the Manufacturing Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and was a board member of The Doon School in Dehradun, where he had studied.He was first married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani, followed by actress Karisma Kapoor.Sunjay and Karisma wed in 2003 and had two children: a daughter, Samaira, and a son, Kiaan. However, the marriage did not last.In 2014, Karisma Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur filed for divorce by mutual consent, which was finalized in 2016.

Sunjay J Kapur, Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Sona Comstar, following a sudden heart attack in England, UK, on 12th June 2025, at the age of 53."They also described him as a “visionary leader” who was instrumental in transforming Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company.Sona Comstar wrote, "A visionary leader, Mr. Kapur played a pivotal role in shaping Sona Comstar into a global mobility technology company built on innovation, sustainability, and purpose.
