Why Are People Calling Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez's $50 Million Wedding 'Cheap'?

The wedding of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez was estimated to be $50 million (Rs 427 crore) with mega Hollywood stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Sydney Sweeney.

The couple tied the knot on Venice's San Giorgio island.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife and former news anchor, Lauren Sanchez, had an ultra-luxurious wedding in Venice, complete with big Hollywood names and Venice’s most exclusive hotels. However, the wedding is now drawing accusations of being “cheap".

With one of the world’s most enchanting cities as the backdrop, the three-day affair was dubbed the “Wedding of the Century". The cost of breakfast alone was 1,000 euros per head (Rs 1 lakh and above). Bezos and Sanchez stayed at the Aman hotel, a luxury 16th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal with a view of the Rialto bridge.

However, according to a source with the Daily Mail, the experience for many guests was not so luxurious as advertised. “What people won’t know from the pictures is how exhausting and full-on it was for the guests."

‘Hassles’ For Guests

“The heat didn’t help but people were forever needing to get around Venice, which means by boat, and that was a hassle and took ages, and there were a lot of people who all needed to get to the same place at the same time," the sources said.

“People were complaining about being completely tired by the time of the wedding day, never mind the day after," the source added.

Notably, the grand wedding had drawn protests and stirred controversy in the city. A group called “No Space for Bezos" has plastered banners across Venice. They aimed to highlight concerns over overtourism and its impact on the city.

Entertainment journalist Rob Shuter also reported that the guests at the wedding were “unimpressed" by the gift bags they had received, saying they felt like “corporate retreat" merchandise. One guest seemingly believed “it was a gag" that Sanchez handed out goodie bags with black open-toe Amazon slides in them.

People also criticised the grey carpet, which was dubbed “industrial". A social media user wrote, “Everybody’s talking abt the outfits but can we talk abt the millennial grey hellscape carpet pls? $50M and they chose to look like your local HR Block went overboard for Mother’s Day?"

“I need to know why Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez chose to get married on a grey office carpet," another person said.
