Caleb Williams’ silver nails weren’t a random fashion choice.
Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Caleb Williams turned heads on Sunday in a big way during Chicago’s dominant 38-0 preseason victory over the Buffalo Bills. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft threw for 130 yards and a touchdown while completing 6 of 10 passes in limited playing time at Soldier Field.
While his on-field performance earned praise, Williams also drew attention before kickoff for a different reason – the silver nail polish he wore.
Chicago Bears rookie QB grabs attention for sporting silver nail polish – the real story behind it
Before even taking a snap, Caleb Williams caught the eye of fans and media alike when he arrived at the stadium wearing silver nail polish. The unique style choice is nothing new for the former USC quarterback, who started painting his nails during his senior year of high school.
Williams has long said the habit is a nod to his mother, a professional nail professional.“It started, I would say, three years ago,” Williams had told USC legend Matt Leinart during a 2022 interview, adding, “It was my last year of high school. My mom does nails. Let’s just start it off there. She’s done it my whole life. It’s just kind of always been around me. Nobody else does it. I just kinda like to do new things.”
Who is Caleb Williams' rumored girlfriend?
Caleb Williams has never publicly spoken about his sexuality, but he has reportedly been in a relationship with Alina Thyregod since November 2023.
Thyregod, his high school sweetheart, has experience working with People magazine. Before that, Williams dated Valery Orellana, a journalism student.
Chicago Bears coaching staff impressed with Caleb Williams' progress
While Williams’ style sparked online chatter, his work on the field spoke volumes. In two series against the Bills, the rookie QB showed command of the offense, finding a rhythm early and leading an efficient scoring drive. Head coach Ben Johnson was especially encouraged by Williams' recent growth through camp and preseason.
“He’s really been locked in,” Johnson said. “Anytime you’re a young player, there’s usually a couple steps forward and one step back and that’s really been the story of his training camp.
He and I have been really open and honest about that as we’ve gone through.”
Final preseason game approaches, but Caleb Williams' role still unclear
