Manchester United wore (RED) instead of Snapdragon vs Brentford as part of a charity initiative, raising funds to fight global health issues through shirt sales and auctions.

Manchester United gave fans plenty to cheer about with a 2–1 win over Brentford. But it wasn’t just the result that caught attention.
The club also stepped out in an unusual kit, swapping their regular Snapdragon sponsor for the (RED) logo.
But why? Well, here’s the reason.
(RED) Logo Explained
The change wasn’t random. It was part of a coordinated initiative involving (RED), a charity founded by Bono and Bobby Shriver to combat global health inequalities.
The organisation raises funds for the Global Fund, supporting efforts to fight AIDS and other diseases.
Snapdragon, United’s primary shirt sponsor, typically pays tens of millions of pounds annually for that front-of-shirt branding. For this match, however, they voluntarily gave up that space to promote the (RED) campaign.
While there are broader commercial and partnership considerations at play, the immediate focus is fundraising and awareness.
Has This Happened Before?
This is the second straight season United have done this. A similar initiative took place last year during a fixture against West Ham.
The model is straightforward: the sponsor steps aside for one match, the charity gains global visibility, and special-edition shirts are released. Match-worn jerseys are later auctioned, with all net proceeds going directly to the cause. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation also matches additional funds raised.
Can I Buy A Manchester United (RED) Jersey?
Fans will be able to purchase the limited-edition jersey through the MatchWornShirt auction platform until May 2, with net proceeds donated to (RED) and the Global Fund.
How Is This Possible?
The FA rules allow clubs to temporarily replace their primary shirt sponsor with a charity logo for designated fixtures. Without that provision, standard sponsorship agreements would typically prevent such a switch.
So, that’s how — for one night at Old Trafford — one of the most valuable advertising spaces in football was handed over to a charitable cause.
And yes, Snapdragon’s logo will return for upcoming matches.
