U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday stayed tight-lipped about his plans with regards to the war in Iran, hours after Tehran sent a peace proposal to the mediators in Pakistan.

When asked if Washington was preparing new strikes on Iran, Trump told a journalist, “Why would I tell you"?

Trump pushed for a peace deal with Iran, a that maintaining that Washington prefers negotiations to war.

“There are options. Do we want to go and just blast the hell out of them and finish them forever or do we want to try and make a deal?… on a human basis, I’d prefer (a deal)", said the president during a press briefing.

On Seeking Congressional Nod

President Trump signalled that he was unlikely to seek Congressional approval to extend the war against Iran, saying no one has ever sought it before.

“Nobody’s ever sought it before, nobody’s ever asked for it before. It’s never been used before, why should we be different?"

The remarks came as the US neared a deadline on Friday to end the Iran war or approach the Congress to extend it.
