KOPPAL: A man on the run for 23 years, after being accused of murdering his wife, finally ran out of luck as the long arm of law caught up with him. Hanumanth Husenappa, the accused, now 75, was charged with killing his third wife in 2002.

He was arrested from Koppal district's Gangavati town Wednesday. According to PSI Prakash Mali, Hanumanth, originally from Raichur district, worked as a junior assistant at a govt primary health centre in Badarli.After losing his first wife and an unsuccessful second marriage, he married Renukamma from Koppal taluk. The couple lived in Gangavathi's Lakshmi Camp area. Hanumanth allegedly stabbed Renukamma to death, following a tiff. He put wife’s body in bagAfter allegedly stabbing her, he hid the body in a gunny bag and put it on a KSRTC bus to Kampli, in Ballari district.“Upon noticing the contents of the bag, the bus driver and conductor drove straight to Gangavathi town police station and filed a complaint,” PSI Mali said. However, even before police could swing into action, Hanumanth had disappeared. Since then, for the last 23 years, he has been leading the life of a nomad, constantly on the run, before he was finally tracked down to his native village Haladhal from where he was arrested.
