Two days after the police booked a local Congress leader in North Paravur for allegedly defaming CPI(M) leader K. J. Shine, his wife has filed a complaint alleging cyber attack by Left supporters.
Sherley, wife of C. K. Gopalakrishnan, on Sunday (September 21, 2025) lodged the complaint with the North Paravur police. The police said the complaint has been forwarded to the Cyber Crime police station, Ernakulam rural.
In her complaint, Ms. Sherley said that her entire family was being subjected to severe cyber attacks by alleged Left sympathisers. She alleged that she was being portrayed in a derogatory manner on social media. She has named several social media handles in the complaint.
Mr. Gopalakrishnan, along with political commentator K. M. Shajahan, was booked by the Cyber Crime police on a complaint filed by Ms. Shine.
The controversy over the alleged attempts to defame the CPI(M) leader had triggered a political debate in the State recently.
Ms. Shine and her party leaders have accused Congress leadership of orchestrating the cyber attack targeting her. Rejecting the charges, Congress leaders, including the Leader of the Opposition, have claimed that the defamation campaign against Ms. Shine could have originated from the alleged factionalism in the CPI(M) in Ernakulam.
A special investigation team (SIT) headed by Munambam DySP S. Jayakrishnan is probing the case registered over Ms. Shine’s complaint. Four CPIM MLAs in the district had also filed separate complaints in connection with the incident. The SIT will be collectively examining the common demands in the MLAs’ complaints as part of the ongoing investigation, a police officer said.
