Bokaro: The deputy commissioner (DC) of Bokaro, Ajay Nath Jha, stated that they are observing “Overspeeding Awareness Week” from November 3–9 to prevent accidents in the district.
Speeding violators may face fines up to Rs 5,000 or three months’ imprisonment.
New speed limit boards and speed breakers are also being installed in accident-prone areas to improve road safety.Officials, including the district transport officer, motor vehicle inspectors, and traffic police, have been asked to create awareness among drivers about controlling speed and safe driving. The week-long campaign aims to educate drivers about the dangers of overspeeding and promote adherence to traffic rules for safer roads.An awareness drive was conducted at Balidih Toll Plaza. Stickers carrying the message “Rafatar Nahi, Zimmedari Nibhao – Rafatar Ghatao, Suraksha Badhao” were also pasted on vehicles, urging drivers to maintain safe speed limits.Motor vehicle inspector Kamal Kishore said that under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 2019, those caught driving above the prescribed speed limit will face monetary fines. Furthermore, individuals found racing on public roads may face penalties under Section 189 of the Act, which includes a fine of Rs 5,000 or imprisonment up to three months, or both.“Old, damaged signboards are also being repaired to ensure better visibility and awareness among road users,” the DC said.
