Wimbledon top seed Jannik Sinner swiftly defeated Spain’s Pedro Martinez on Saturday to reach the last 16 without losing a set. The Italian, a three-time Grand Slam champion, overcame his 52nd-ranked opponent, who was hampered by a shoulder issue, with a decisive 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 victory in under two hours.

“Obviously very happy but I think we all saw that he was struggling with his shoulder," said Sinner.

“He couldn’t serve very well. Especially on this surface when you don’t serve well, then it’s not easy to play."

Reflecting on his first week at Wimbledon, Sinner noted, “Every time when you reach the second week of a Grand Slam it’s a very special occasion," he said.

“Even more special here in Wimbledon, so I’m very happy to be in the second week."

Why Sinner Wants to Watch F1?

A fan of Formula One, Sinner mentioned he would arrange his practice schedule around the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday.

In the fourth round at the All England Club, he will face either 19th seed Grigor Dimitrov or Sebastian Ofner.

The 23-year-old dominated from the start, quickly securing a 5-0 lead on Centre Court. Martinez took a time-out for shoulder treatment and managed to win the next game on his serve, but Sinner soon wrapped up the set. The second set was closer until Sinner broke in the fifth game and repeated the break to take the set. Despite further treatment before the third set, Sinner surged to another 5-0 lead. Martinez, 28, managed to win one game, but Sinner completed the match shortly after.

Sinner has lost just 17 games across his three matches in the first week of Wimbledon, contrasting with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, who has shown inconsistent form. Sinner returned from a doping ban in May, losing the Italian Open final to Alcaraz and missing three championship points against the same opponent in the French Open final. His best Wimbledon performance was a semi-final run in 2023, and he reached the quarter-finals last year.
