Stefano Pioli was dismissed by Fiorentina on Tuesday, with the team winless in their last 10 matches and languishing at the bottom of Serie A.

The decision followed a 1-0 home defeat to Lecce, which exacerbated the Tuscan squad’s struggles. Fiorentina is currently last in the standings, one point behind Hellas Verona, with only four points from four draws and six losses.

“Fiorentina can confirm that Stefano Pioli has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the first team," the club announced. “Daniele Galloppa will temporarily take charge of the first team, starting from this afternoon’s training session."

Pioli’s sacking comes after Fiorentina announced on Saturday that they had mutually agreed to terminate the contract of sporting director Daniele Prade.

Pioli was appointed after former Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino unexpectedly departed following a sixth-place finish last season.

Fiorentina has performed well in Europe recently, finishing as runner-up in consecutive Conference League finals and reaching the semifinals last season.

This season, Fiorentina tops their Conference League group after two matches and will next visit Mainz on Thursday.

Fiorentina’s upcoming Serie A match is against Genoa on Sunday.

Pioli led AC Milan to the Serie A title in 2022 before coaching Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and then joining Fiorentina.

This marks the third coaching change in Serie A this season, following Luciano Spalletti replacing Igor Tudor at Juventus and Patrick Vieira leaving Genoa.
