A woman in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district has levelled serious allegations against the local police in Patratu, claiming her husband was falsely implicated in an Arms Act case after he refused to provide free mutton to local officers.

In a written complaint submitted on November 8, 2025, to senior police officers, including the Ramgarh SP, DGP, DIG Hazaribagh, IG Bokaro and SDPO Patratu, complainant Reena Devi alleged that her husband, Rajesh Sahu, who runs a meat shop, was targeted after a dispute with police personnel.

According to Reena Devi, officers and constables from the Patratu police station frequently took mutton from her husband’s shop without paying. When he asked for payment, the police allegedly grew hostile. She claimed that on October 14, 2025, the station in-charge called her husband, summoned him to the station, and then registered two false cases, branding him a member of the ‘Pandey gang’ before sending him to jail.

“My husband has no connection with any gang. He simply runs his mutton shop to support our family,” she wrote, urging a fair probe and her husband’s release from the “false case.”

EX-CM BABULAL MARANDI SLAMS POLICE ‘VENDETTA’

The case drew the attention of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi, who sharply criticised the police in a Facebook post, alleging that some officers were misusing the law to settle personal scores. “In Patratu, a mutton shop owner has allegedly been jailed under a fake Arms Act case for refusing to give mutton for free. His wife has sought an investigation, while police claim he was caught planning a crime at night. Such contradictions raise serious questions about police conduct,” Marandi wrote.

He further said that the practice of filing fabricated cases against opponents, allegedly begun during Hemant Soren’s tenure, now appeared to be a pattern among certain officers.

“Hemant ji, who himself spent six months in jail over corruption charges, should understand what happens when one digs a pit for others. The Ramgarh police must immediately review CCTV footage and call records to ensure a fair investigation,” Marandi added, urging the High Court to review all Arms Act, NDPS, sedition and SC/ST cases registered in the last six years to uncover potential misuse of law against ordinary citizens.
