Woman Attempts Self-Immolation Over Unresolved Land Dispute During Janta Durbar in Hazaribag

Hazaribag: A woman attempted self-immolation while a janta durbar was on at the office of deputy commissioner Shashi Prakash Singh on Tuesday.Prabha Devi of Basariya village of Barkatha police station tried to set herself afire as she was upset that her complaint relating to land problems was still not settled despite several pleas.

She was carrying kerosene with her, said witnesses.Sources said that she used to visit every public meeting for the past few weeks to seek help for settling dispute on her six decimal land, but no step was taken.As she attempted to self immolate, the staff of the DC office and police rushed took her away from there and controlled the situation. Singh immediately instructed SDO Barhi to look into her issue and take action against officials concerned on why the issue wasn't resolved so far. The DC was not available for comment when tried to contact him.
