Woman dies by suicide; parents allege murder

Berhampur: Mystery shrouds the death of a 27-year-old woman who died by suicide at her home in Bhatakhali village under Ganjam district’s Kabisurya Nagar police station limits on Tuesday.

Her parents suspect her husband to have killed her.

The deceased was identified as Ranjita Dakua, wife of Tukuma Dakua. The couple, who married in 2019, has two children — a five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son.Police sources said her husband, who was working in Surat, as a daily wager returned to the village a few months back. During his stay, he allegedly quarrelled with his wife over petty matters. “In the last three days, there has been a heated exchange of words between them.

On Monday night, they attacked each other,” said a police officer.After the quarrel, the woman entered the room and hanged herself after locking the door. Her daughter, who was inside the room, came out and informed her father. She was rescued by her husband and others but was dead by then.Her brother Kesab Dakua of Antripda village rushed to Bhatakhali. He lodged an FIR in Kabisurya Nagar police station. He said Tukuma had beaten up Ranjita demanding money over the last several months. The body was sent for post-mortem to MKCG Medical College, said IIC of Kabisurya Nagar police station Niranjan Das.
