A 33-year-old woman farmer attempted to end her life by consuming pesticide during a land survey at Kothavaripalle village of Madanapalle mandal in Annamayya district on Thursday, alleging that the Revenue officials had denied her justice in a land dispute.
The woman, identified as Manjula, alleged that two acres of farmland registered in her late father’s name at Balijipalle village had been illegally occupied by her relatives. She alleged that despite repeated appeals to the Revenue officials to verify the facts and land records, the officials chose to side with the encroachers. Against this backdrop, the woman suddenly picked up a bottle containing pesticide and gulped the contents, protesting against the “injustice”.
The people in the neighbourhood and the officials immediately shifted her to the Government District Hospital in Madanapalle. Her condition was said to be out of danger. Following the incident, the Revenue officials said that a probe would be ordered into her allegations. (Those with suicidal tendencies can dial 100).
