Husband falsely took blame to shield father; 3 family members booked for misleading cops, destroying evidence

HYDERABAD: Three members of a family – a housewife who suffered a knife injury, her husband who tried to take the blame and his father who was responsible for the attack — have been booked by the Jubilee Hills police for trying to mislead cops. The father-in-law of the victim has been sent to judicial remand, while the couple will be served notices to record their statements, police said. The family lives in Krishna Nagar and includes the couple, their three sons and father-in-law.At 11:50 am on Wednesday, Jubilee Hills police received an alert from a private hospital in Yosufguda about a housewife, Ch Jayalaxmi (41), admitted with a knife injury on her neck. The police later reached the hospital and took her statement. Jayalaxmi told cops that she had been attacked by her husband, Arun Prasad (42), a private employee, around 8am after she confronted him for consuming alcohol at home.“An argument broke out and my husband attacked me with a kitchen knife. I suffered a cut on the neck and he rushed me to the hospital,” Jayalaxmi told cops.Following her statement, Jubilee Hills police booked an attempt-to-murder case against Prasad under section 109 (1) of the BNS and took him into custody.

But during interrogation, Prasad confessed that his father had attacked Jayalaxmi due to a personal grudge.“To save his father from going to prison, Arun decided to take the blame and convinced his wife to give a false statement to police,” said a police official. On Arun’s statement, police booked Venkateshwara Rao under section 109 (1). Arun, who had cleaned the blood-stained knife, was charged under section 238 (causing disappearance of evidence, or giving false information to screen offender) and Jayalaxmi was booked under section 240 (giving false information respecting an offence committed) of the BNS. Venkateshwara Rao, who earlier worked as a junior artiste in Tollywood, was arrested on Thursday and sent to judicial remand.
