A staff was rescued after a private match box making factory at Katadikuppam village near Gudiyatham town in Vellore was gutted after fire broke out in the facility.
The police said that it was around 11 a.m when a few workers noticed thick smoke coming from the unit. They tried to douse the fire along with other workers, but the fire spread to the entire unit. The police said that workers heard R. Parimala, 36, crying for help. Following this, the workers demolished a portion of the unit’s wall and rescued her.
Before firefighters could reach the spot, fire spread to the entire facility. The godown was gutted. Estimates of destroyed goods in the facility are being done. A case was registered. The police said that an electrical short circuit could have been the reason for the accident. A probe is under way.
