A woman in Gujarat's Rajkot was arrested for stealing Rs 4.55 lakh from her brother-in-law’s room and fabricating a story of a masked robbery to mislead police.
According to police, the woman initially claimed that three masked men barged into her house, held her captive at knifepoint, twisted her arm, and looted cash and jewellery worth Rs 5.44 lakh from her home and that of her brother-in-law.
She alleged that while she was being threatened, the intruders took off with Rs 4.55 lakh in cash and jewellery.
However, during the investigation, police grew suspicious as no evidence suggested the entry of outsiders.
On further questioning, the woman’s fake story began to unravel. Eventually, the police recovered all the so-called “looted” valuables from her own home.
During interrogation, the woman admitted she had stolen Rs 4.55 lakh from her brother-in-law’s room and hidden her own jewellery to make the robbery story look convincing. She confessed that her husband’s low salary was not enough to manage household expenses and she hatched the plan to deal with the financial difficulties.
Police have arrested her and registered a case under charges of theft and misleading law enforcement.
