Sirisha, the woman who was allegedly tied to a tree and tortured for her inability to repay the debt taken by her husband in Kuppam, will get 50 cents of land in the Kuppam Municipality limits.
Kuppam Urban Development Authority Project Director Vikas Marmat and APSRTC vice-chairman P.S. Muniratnam on Wednesday visited the victim’s family and assured all possible help to Ms. Sirisha. They handed over a cheque for ₹5 lakh sanctioned by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu as financial assistance to support the family.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Muniratnam said moneylenders were taking advantage of the financial requirements of the people and charging exorbitant interest. “Some moneylenders are charging 10% interest. It will no longer be tolerated,” he said.
Mr. Muniratnam said Mr. Naidu and Home Minister V. Anitha responded immediately to the incident and acted swiftly by assuring stringent action against the accused. He said one among the three children of the woman would be admitted to the Gurukul school at Vijalapuram.
